epic.SEVENTEEN - Day One

The first day of epic17 started at 7am for some of us as we got prepared to lift tables, lay cables and stock fridges ahead of our first sell out event of 2016, but for the rest of you it started at 4pm when we opened the doors and started tweeting, sharing and streaming to those of you at home.  It isn't easy building a LAN, but seeing so many of you enjoying a drink at the bar, getting hyped for our fun and competitive tournaments, or being beaten by the brand new 'epic Burger' makes it all more than worth it.

The highlight of Thursday though had to be the opening ceremony, hosted by JoeShow and Winbar. The opening ceremonies at epicLAN always draw in a crowd and it's no surprise really; where else can you see JoeShow get out of breath from lip syncing? Speaking of lip syncing, this event's opening ceremony challenge saw Tardcommander and our very own ddanblack go head to head in a musical battle that involved costume changes, interpretive dance and some well produced banners of support from the crowd. If you missed it, be sure to catch it on twitch.tv/epicLAN

Following the opening ceremony, epicLAN's eSports manager Tom "Gumpster" Gumbleton was joined by various personalities from the UK eSports scene in the Gallery to discuss all things competitive gaming and share a wealth of knowledge about the UK scene and gaming in general. Again, if you missed this the first time round it's well worth checking it out on twitch.tv/epicLAN.

To round off the evening we found lots of you making the most of the Rock Band area in the Gallery, with some questionable renditions of Bon Jovi's 'Livin on a Prayer'. We here at epicLAN love seeing you all stepping away from your monitors every now and then to enjoy the social side of LAN as much as the competitive side.

Here's to an awesome first day and another 3 days of gaming, socialising and non-stop banter at epic17!
