New Forum Features

Forum ChangesSo, the new forums have now been active for a few weeks, and we hope you have all enjoyed using them as much as we have. 

To help us all get the most out of the forums, we have prepared a little list of new features with an explanation of what that feature does. Read below! :)

Forum ChangesSo, the new forums have now been active for a few weeks, and we hope you have all enjoyed using them as much as we have. 

To help us all get the most out of the forums, we have prepared a little list of new features with an explanation of what that feature does. Read below! :)

  • Gallery - We have moved all 10k photos into the new gallery which is integrated with the forums. Photos are nicely organised into LAN, lites and events and can be voted and commented on. There is also a Member Albums category which allows you to create your own albums and upload your own photos to share with the rest of the community. 
  •  Selected Quoting - We all like to quote people when replying, now you can just highlight the peice of text that you want to quote and a small popup box will appear allowing you so add just that selected to to the quote in your reply! 
  • Windows Notifications - The forums integrate with Windows Notifications and can tell you when something happens on the forums. There are also popup notifications that appear at the bottom of the forum window if you happen to have the fourm open when something happens. 
  • Profile Banners - We like people's profiles to be rich and worthy of looking at, so we have enabled everyone to change their profile banner. You can set a nice picture that wil appear at the top of your profile page and on any HoverCards when you hover over your name.
  • Following Friends - The old friend system is now gone, and instead your follow people. This allows you to get notifications when someone you are following does something on the forums. We have added a plugin which allows you to select what you want to be notified about to make it a bit more customisable.
  • Calendars with RSVP - Like we have previously, all epic.LAN events appear in our community calendar. We have enabled RSVP, so feel free to say if you're able to attend our events or not!
  • New Theme - We have lightened up the theme a little. This may be brighter than you are used to but it's not as white as Reddit, and hey, everyone loves browsing Reddit for hours on end! :)
  • Responsivness - With the new theme comes responsivness. We no longer need to maintain two themes on the forums to cope with mobile and tablet devices. Instead the main theme will just resize to suit the device it is being viewd upon. 
  • Highlighting - We have been able to highlight people on Facebook and Twitter for years, well now it's time to be able to do that in the forums. Simply start with an @ and you can find the persons name you want to hilight in your reply or comment. 
  • Activity Streams - The new forums have a different way of showing us the latest content. Activity Streams are a timeline of things that have happened on the forums and gallery. We have provided some default Streams which cover the usual things people like to see, like Unread content, content I follow and content I started. It is also possible to make your own customer streams so you can see exactly what you want to see in your stream. So create your own, or use one of ours as a base for your own streams!
  • Private forums for our Twitch subscribers - As we venture into the world of Twitch streaming, we have created a special home for our subscribers in the forums with a new forum badge as well. visit www.twitch.tv/epiclan to find out more information.
