2024 Layout Changes

As we go in to 2024, we felt like changing things up a little with our arena layout, nothing major, but we wanted to keep the technical team on their toes and give them something extra to do at the event.

Read on to find out what we're doing and why.

MSI EXTENDS EPIC.LAN PARTNERSHIP

After returning to EPIC.LAN in 2022, and with a keen desire to get back in front of gamers at live events, MSI is set to continue its partnership for the remainder of 2023 covering the EPIC39 and EPIC40 events. MSI has been a staple of EPIC.LAN going back to 2014, and after a short break and world pandemic, community sentiment is at an all-time high for the two organisations continuing to work together.

This partnership will see MSI continue to be at forefront of EPIC.LAN events, giving attendees hands-on experience with some of the best hardware on the market, as well as chances to win prizes, and access to exclusive discounts/offers. MSI will also be a key part of community activities, sponsoring fun tournaments, participating in stage content, and collaborating with other partners as part of EPIC.LAN’s demonstration zones.

EPIC.LAN LAUNCHES NEW TECHNICAL PARTNERSHIP WITH DRAYTEK

The gaming network is the most critical part of a LAN event, it is literally in the name. That is why EPIC.LAN’s latest partnership with DrayTek makes perfect sense. Where else is better to show off a high-performance network than a LAN party?

The partnership will see DrayTek become the Official Network Partner of EPIC.LAN for 2023/24 with their investment in the latest hardware to connect hundreds of players together at the event, bringing tangible technical quality improvements to everyone participating.

EPIC.LAN Episode XXXIX: A New Home

Since the unfortunate news of KCC's closure, we've been working really hard to secure a new venue for EPIC39. Finding somewhere to host a multi-day LAN event is really hard, especially with the overnight aspects, techncial requirements and everywhere already been booked up (we normally book our dates over 12 months in advance).

Thankfully our summer events were always a little smaller, so with that in mind we're pleased to confirm that we have a temporary home for EPIC39 at Wolverhampton Racecourse for around the same capacity we would have had at KCC for this event. What is it about UK LANs and racecourses...

Unfortunately though we were not able to keep the same dates, we have had to go one weekend later to 27 - 30 July

EPIC38 - New Stage Content

The EPIC38 stage schedule has been revealed with an increase in community involvement based on our recent open forum and end of year survey.

While favourites like the regular Pub Quiz remain, as well as showcasing our esports grand finals towards the end of the event, EPIC38 sees more opportunities for members of the community to get up on stage, and then from EPIC39 onwards we'll also be opening up applications for completely community generated content for those who like being in front of the camera.

Lakeside Change - EPIC38

As BYOC LANs have gone on, our audience has also grown and changed over the years. LAN parties used to have a BIG LOUD ROOM with music and colour that would give the whole student-house-come-party feeling, a throwback to the times when you'd decorate the various landings of your house with network cables.

As our audience changes, we get different feedback on the level of music, involvement and general exuberance, so we're going to be doing something different for EPIC38 in the Lakeside Room.

EPIC.LAN TO CONTINUE BEING POWERED BY INTEL IN 2023

Following the successful return of in-person events in 2022, Intel and EPIC.LAN have renewed their partnership in 2023 for the third year with a continued focus on community gaming and grassroots esports.

2022 was another extremely successful year for the partnership. While the events world started to return to normal after COVID, EPIC.LAN continued its efforts to support and grow the UK amateur scene with Intel’s support, building on the strong foundations from previous years of working together with highlights such as the Intel Community Championship, a prize for the best all-round gamer at each EPIC.LAN event.

OVERCLOCKERS UK TO CONTINUE HEADLINING EPIC.LAN FOR 2023

After a successful return to in-person events throughout 2022, EPIC.LAN and Overclockers UK have renewed their partnership for 2023 for the fourth year, looking to continue supporting the UK community gaming and esports scene.

2022 was another challenging year for a lot of people, and the gaming industry was not immune to this. As the first year without COVID restrictions, EPIC.LAN was able to return in person for all 3 main events to its regular home of Kettering Conference Centre as well as the introducing a new dedicated tabletop gaming event and luxury gaming LAN, LUX.

Despite pandemics and a cost of living crisis emerging, EPIC.LAN still had one of its most successful years to date due to its focus on important community-first events.

EPIC36 – Urgent Room Changes

With date changes, room changes earlier in the month and just as we were packing everything up ready for the event, we get some more annoying news.

In the last 24h we’ve been informed by Kettering Conference Centre that the air conditioning in the main Fair Isle hall for EPIC36 has failed, engineers have visited the site and unfortunately the parts required to get the units working again will not be available until August.
